The sepow represents the executioner's authority over the condemned man. The sepow is a dagger which the uses to execute the victim ay tearing through his face. The Akan tribe believe that the victim can place a curse on the king, who orders the execution, before he dies which is why it is necessary to tear his mouth open before he begins to invoke curses. At the end, every crime comes with consequences and this cut must face the executioner's knife.
